Synchronization of telecommunication networks and lab systems

Synchronization equipment plays an important and often underestimated role in many applications where the availability of precise timing is an essential feature.

There are several types of synchronization signals that are typically used in appropriate areas. In telco field and especially with respect to TDM, SDH and PDH technology, a sinus signal with a frequency of 2,048MHz is used, in case of data nodes synchronization timing procols such as NTP or PTP can be found. For purposes of scientific applications or measurement laboratories clock references with a frequency of 1, 5, 10MHz and timing signal 1PPS are delivered.

Our portfolio of synchronization reference sources includes solutions intended for stationary installation as well as for portable use. Based on the application an appropriate source complyingwith the desired accuracy, number and type of output signals, physical dimensions, availability of GPS receiver is offered.

Small factor sources (mostly GPS trained) are popular for its versatility, easy to use control interface, fast installation either indoors or outdoors with very limited maintenance required. At the premises of data connection providers and ISPs, middle size, configurable, rack mounted synchronization sources with external GPS antennas can be found. Such equipment likely offers a selection of signals, normally 2,048MHz, 2,048 Mbit/s, 1/5/10MHz, sometimes accompanied also by NTP or PTP server functionality. The number of output ports ranges from a couple to a couple of hundreds to supply larger networks.

More extensive deployments encompassing many synchronization units are usually complemented with an overlaying SW tool for central management, monitoring and configuration of individual sources, alarms generation and report generation. In such cases a complete scale of services is provided starting with customer environment analysis through solution deployment planning and current network optimization, full installation including antennas mounting, racks replacement, cabling etc. ending with systems integration, training and service contract.

The above specified solutions are utilizing products of leading suppliers of reference sources such as Gillam-FEi, Meinberg, Quartzlock, Pendulum or FEi - Zyfer.
