Multipro Copper

The Trend Multipro Copper provides in one portable and rugged unit all the test facilities to measure cable pairs prior to DSL installation. Measurements to 30 MHz ensure that vital characteristics are fully measured. Parameters include frequency response, impedance, crosstalk and noise

Further product information.

Trend Multipro is a valuable tool for effective service qualification and troubleshooting. It ensures proper end-to-end operation of converged networks by testing the service performance as it is experienced by the customer. Provider networks, customer equipment, as well as media coding and transport are all thoroughly analysed and tested.

Multipro is supplied pre-configured with test suites tailored to a range of service types.Copper2
Each test in the suite has a preset mask which is compared with the test result to obtain a PASS/FAIL result.

Operation Modes

Full qualification of out of service copper pairs can be achieved using one Multipro connected just to one end of the line, offering savings in equipment, personnel and travel costs. For additional tests which require access to both ends of the line, a low cost Transponder is available.

In addition to its range of tools for testing the "dry" copper, Multipro Copper offers an optional high speed Spectrum Analyzer for investigation of live service signal profiles, a sweeping Signal Generator a general purpose Oscilloscope mode.

Single-ended testing of out-of-service lines using one MultiproCopper4
  • Return loss measurement for detecting cable mismatch
  • Characteristic Impedance measurement for cable type identification
  • Attenuation measurement for estimating cable loss
  • Longitudinal Balance Measurement for detecting unequal line loading
  • Noise measurement for detecting excessive interference
  • Near End Crosstalk measurement for detecting cross-channel influence
  • Impulsive Noise counter for long-term monitoring of intermittent problems
  • Bit Rate prediction for assessing attainable line throughput
  • Time Domain Reflectometer for locating breaks, shorts and bad joints
  • Load Coil counter for identifying unwanted cable elements
  • Resistance measurement for detection of bad joints and line length estimation
  • Capacitance measurement for line length estimation
  • Voltage measurement for identifying line power
  • Insulation measurement for stress-testing cable degradation

Double-ended testing of out-of-service lines using two Multipros or one Multipro and an optional TransponderCopper4
  • Attenuation measurement for high accuracy cable loss assessment
  • Far End Crosstalk measurement for detecting cross-channel interference
  • Interruptions counter for long-term monitoring of intermittent problems
  • Signal to Noise Ratio test for channel capacity estimation

Active and passive testing of in-service lines and equipment
  • Spectrum Analyzer for Power Spectrum Density service profiling and spectrum policing
  • General purpose Signal Generator
  • General purpose Oscilloscope

Testing and Results

Depending on the test type, results may be displayed numerically or graphically, and may be part of a test suite with a pass/fail limit. All of the graphical results can also be interrogated manually to extract numerical results at any desired point. Graphical results can be zoomed and scrolled left/right, and a miniature thumbnail picture of the whole range is provided to assist in navigating around the plot
